Calm As An Educational Value
Calm as an educational value concerns the possibility of educating one’s children and pupils to build a solid personality. We refer to a personality that allows them to act with strength and calmness in every upsetting and complicated situation that they will be forced to live several times in their daily days.
What is calm?
Calm is a characteristic possessed by things or people who are, momentarily or always, calm. And the term “calm” is used as an adjective to describe those who are calm and relaxed.
It follows that calm is related to someone’s character; in other words, a person can possess a calm character. But calm in turn refers to a skill that can be developed and trained. Put simply: a person can learn to act calmly in the presence of different situations.
Whether in situations of daily life or in a tense, complicated or difficult circumstance, being calm or being a calm person will allow you to think before acting impulsively or carried away by your emotions.
Self-control and calm as a value to be transmitted
In our days and throughout our life, we have to face work, family and personal situations that require us to make a decision and act accordingly. And, as we have already said, even normal and everyday situations can be faced in different ways.
When a person is calm or faces his daily life and his problems with serenity, he manages to be in control of his emotions and his own self-control. This results in the conscious ability to regulate impulses and reactions voluntarily.
Through calm and self-control, therefore, a person is able to dominate the impulses that push him to act irrationally in the face of various situations. As a result, it is possible for you to:
- Do not waste time.
- Avoid feelings of frustration, anxiety, tension and stress.
- Learning from problems.
- Don’t hurt other people by acting or saying certain things without thinking first.
- Develop a positive personal and relationship balance.
- Get more focus.
- Improve your mood.
- Achieve inner peace.
Calm as an educational value
Nowadays we all have a very hectic life: family, work, studies, travel, relationships and social networks… All this leads us to maintain a constant state of sensory arousal. For this reason, it is essential to learn to be calm people or to be able to act calmly in the face of adversity and the problems of the accelerated life we lead.
It is therefore important to educate your children and pupils in the value of calm. And this means teaching them to develop attitudes of stillness and serenity in case of difficult circumstances, new or unknown. But also to face isolated, dramatic or dangerous moments that require a calm and quiet conduct. Children and young people need to learn to:
- Analyze and think well about things before acting, evaluating all the possible consequences.
- Stay calm in the face of dangerous or unforeseen situations, and always ask for help.
- Relativize everything, giving priority to what is really important.
- Control your breathing to be able to relax in stressful situations.
- Be patient, as everything happens in its own time. Problems can have more than one solution and this is not always immediate.
- Evaluate several options and solutions before taking action.
- Listen to the opinions and points of view of others. Any knowledge, experience and advice can help you broaden your mind to make better decisions when faced with problems.
